Witham students step back in time for Year 7 history trip

The year group enjoyed learning about life in Domesday England

Year 7 students from New Rickstones Academy in Witham enjoyed a whole-year school trip to Mountfitchet Castle.

This was the first time in many years that a whole year group has been on a school trip together.

Southend-on-Sea school awarded £8k grant to help inspire reading

The funds will allow the school to purchase a wide range of new literary text

Temple Sutton Primary School in Southend-on-Sea has received a £8k grant to support children in developing a love for reading.

The school will be able to purchase a wide range of new literary texts and make updates to their library.

Recycled Christmas trees raise more than £16k for Saint Francis Hospice

For the first time, residents in Brentwood were included in Saint Francis Hospice's Christmas tree collection and helped contribute to a donation total of £16,762.

The money raised makes a real difference to people who are seriously unwell and need experienced palliative and end of life care.

Great Baddow races are back for 2022

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Great Baddow races.

The previous two races have been staged virtually due to coronavirus restrictions and organisers are looking forward to seeing runners come together again.

Billericay mum wins Carer of the Year award

Shelley Simmonds with her children April and Fraser

A mum of two from Billericay has been awarded a Carer of the Year award for her devotion to her son who has Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Shelley Simmonds was presented with the award by sporting icon Gabby Logan in a surprise virtual ceremony.
