Chelmsford brain tumour survivor to run the London Marathon

Jenny Cooper-Radley from Chelmsford is taking on the London Marathon this year in aid of Brain Tumour Research.

Jenny has survived one brain tumour and was recently diagnosed with another in July 2020, but the diagnosis has left her more determined than ever.

Jimmy Doherty named as next Chancellor of Writtle University College

Farmer and television presenter Jimmy Doherty is taking on a new role as chancellor of Writtle University College.

Jimmy is a long-standing advocate of putting science into practice. He gained a degree in animal biology and a PhD in ecological entomology before launching his own farming career.

Eddie Hearn launches new boxing club in Brentwood

Eddie Hearn joins members of Brentwood Central ABC in the ring at the Brentwood Centre

Matchroom Sport chairman Eddie Hearn officially opened the new Brentwood Central ABC boxing club at the Brentwood Centre.

He also Facetimed boxer Anthony Joshua so the children could show him their boxing moves.

Former Chelmsford teacher celebrates 104th birthday

Phyllis Blackett

Long-time Chelmsford resident and former teacher Phyllis Blackett has celebrated her 104th birthday.

Staff at Willowmead Care Home in Hatfield Peverel arranged a hairdressing and nail pampering session for Phyllis and residents came together for a party.

Doctor from Southend Hospital to compete in the Winter Olympics

Elsa Desmond, a doctor at Southend Hospital, has qualified to compete in luge at the Winter Olympics in China next month.

She will be lying on her back with her feet on a small sled as it twists and turns down a frozen track at speeds up to almost 90mph.
