Pupil from Hook wins writing competition

More than 1,200 school, sixth-form and college students entered the competition and 17 winning entries were picked across categories including KS1 through to KS5 and all regions in the UK.
Phoebe, who attends Lord Wandsworth College in Long Sutton, said: "I was delighted to be selected as a winner. Speaking out and stopping violence against women is something I have been passionate about for a very long time."

Graduate in Camberley encourages women to consider construction careers

Monika King studied liberal arts at the University of London and is now a graduate management trainee at house-building firm Persimmon Homes.
Monika said: “I was keen to pursue a career within the housebuilding industry and was aware of the many career opportunities available. I hope that more women and individuals from a range of backgrounds choose to enter the industry and are welcomed."

Fleet Lions to work with school pupils in tree-planting scheme

The initiative allows young people to raise money for school projects and the Lions are hoping to see a contribution to the Queen’s Green Canopy in honour of the Platinum Jubilee.
Councillor Steve Forster said: "I was privileged to be asked if I would provide a grant from my county councillor's grant fund. Those trees are going right across three or four different locations that they have agreed with Fleet Town Council."

Five-year-old girl raises £1,000 for Down syndrome charity with scooter challenge

The event came ahead of World Down Syndrome Day which was held on March 21 and Sophie has smashed her £500 target by raising £1,157.
It is estimated that there are around 41,700 people with Down syndrome in England and Wales.

Mayor of Surrey Heath visits archaeological trust in danger of closure

The Trust has been in existence for 40 years but is struggling to secure its future existence at its current premises.
It has run several archaeological digs in and around the Bagshot, Lightwater and Windlesham area, including the Windlesham Arboretum, The Three Mariners, The Kings Arms, 19-31 High Street and 42 London Road.
