Here at the InYourArea Community News Team we love local and look to bring you as many news stories each week as we can.

This fortnightly round-up features a selection of some of the news stories from Rushmoor that we've told about your community that you may have missed between November 22 and December 5.

We start with the biggest news story from the past fortnight.

On November 26, the government unveiled a new tier system to come into effect from December 2, and we were on hand to let you know what tier your area had been placed in.

The tier 2 restrictions for Rushmoor mean that people are able to mix again outdoors in groups of up to six, but are banned from meeting indoors with other households.

The news came as rates in Rushmoor continued to fall.

Discover, a financial services firm, is looking to hire 100 skilled technology professionals to join its growing office in Farnborough.

The new roles will be based at Discover’s UK office, also called the Tech Hub, in the architect-designed Ascent contemporary office community housed within the Farnborough Aerospace Centre in Farnborough, Hampshire.

The company, who used to based in Farnborough town centre, relocated to the site last year after agreeing a 12-year lease on the refurbished Ascent 3 building.

To help support local businesses in Aldershot and Farnborough, Rushmoor Borough Council has decided to allow visitors to park for free in most of its car parks on the next three Sundays.

On Sunday December 6, 13 and 20 the majority of the council-owned car parks will not charge for parking.

In total, 16 council-owned car parks will not charge for parking on these dates.

National funding has been secured for proposed measures to create better spaces for people walking and cycling in both Aldershot and Farnborough.

The news comes after Hampshire County Council announced that it is set to receive £3.28 million from the Department for Transport’s Emergency Active Travel Fund Tranche 2.

Proposed projects suggested in Hampshire County Council’s bid for funding included improvements to Aldershot High Street to allocate more space for walking and cycling, and footway widening and traffic management on Old Lynchford Road and Camp Road in North Camp, Farnborough, for cyclists.

Hampshire County Council is considering an investment of £10.5 million to open a new unit at the Samuel Cody school in Farnborough.

Staff, pupils, families, and also local residents, will be consulted over plans to expand the school’s capacity by building a new unit for 90 pupils aged 10 to 16 with SEMH needs.

The new unit is planned to open in phases from September 2022, and will have independent drop off, pick up and parking facilities.
