In case you missed it: Five Rushmoor stories from the past fortnight

Here at the InYourArea Community News Team we love local and look to bring you as many news stories each week as we can.

This fortnightly round-up features a selection of some of the news stories from Rushmoor that we've told about your community that you may have missed between January 30 and February 12.

Beryl Yeomans and Judi Page were recognised as having made a significant contribution to Aldershot and Farnborough in Hampshire.

It is usually given to an individual but due to the exceptional circumstances of the pandemic it was decided to recognise both for their dedicated volunteering.

Blue Warren-Smith, seven, is aiming to make a £200 contribution to his friend Lucy Johnston, four, who was born with spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy.

The procedure can't be done on the NHS so Lucy's carer Rachael Berry is trying to raise £50,000 in total to have the operation done privately and to pay for the post-surgery therapy that could change Lucy's life.

The policy will provide guidance to developers before the adoption of a new local plan which is due to be completed in 2024.

The change means properties have to be discounted by at least 30 per cent against market value, sold to first time buyers, be their sole or primary residence, and sold at a price no higher than £250,000 after the discount has been applied.

Stanley Taylor was serving with the East Yorkshire Regiment when he took part in Operation Overlord, landing on Sword Beach in occupied France as part of the first wave of soldiers on June 6, 1944.

He passed away on Wednesday, January 5, aged 97, and his funeral will be held tomorrow at 2.15pm at Aldershot Crematorium.

Stephen Morgan MP, shadow minister for schools, visited the town on Saturday, January 22 to help Labour candidates campaign in the battleground seat of Wellington for Rushmoor Borough Council.

Joining councillor Nadia Martin for her campaign launch, Stephen met with local people from the area to discuss issues and challenges they face. In May, a third of the seats in the area are up for election.
