This fortnightly round-up features a selection of some of the news stories from Rushmoor that we've told about your community that you may have missed between March 1 and 13.

A team of volunteers who have been combining lockdown exercise with litter picking in a campaign to rid a much used Hampshire park of litter have helped police reunite two bags of stolen jewellery to a local household.

Members from Friends of Queen Elizabeth Park, have been visiting the 24 acre park in Farnborough, Hampshire, in family bubbles or by themselves during permitted lockdown exercise time, armed with litter pickers and rubbish bags.

The group, who recently surpassed their original target of collecting 50 bags of litter, also helped the police successfully return the jewellery to victims of a burglary after discovering the items at the park.

Rushmoor Borough Council has announced its new Mayor and deputy Mayor for the following year.

At a meeting toward the end of last month, councillor Bruce Thomas, who was first elected to the council in 2012 and currently represents Manor Park ward in Aldershot, Hampshire, was announced as Mayor of Rushmoor for the 2021/2022 year.

Cllr Thomas said he felt "honoured and proud" to have been chosen.

A Hampshire school pupil is undertaking a fundraising unicycle challenge to give something back to the school that helped her overcome her anxieties and develop a new-found resilience.

Órlaith Coughlan, a pupil at Guillemont Junior School in Farnborough, Hampshire is unicycling a mile every day this March.

The 11-year-old decided to take on the challenge as a way of giving back to the school before leaving for secondary school as a thank you for the role they played in helping her overcome her anxieties after moving to the area.

hree generations of a local family have teamed up in a bid to raise £1,200 for an Aldershot-based charity that supports young people during tough times.

The 'Cargate Crew’, called so due to their links to the Cargate Conservation Area in Aldershot, Hampshire, are taking part in Step by Step’s 272 Challenge to help raise funds for the charity that deals with youth homelessness.

A local community lottery has reached a huge fundraising milestone just over three years after launching.

The Rushmoor Community Lottery, a scheme that helps projects, community groups and charities in Aldershot and Farnborough in Hampshire has now raised £100,000 for the groups it supports.
