Here at the InYourArea Community News Team we love local and look to bring you as many news stories each week as we can.

This fortnightly round-up features a selection of some of the news stories from Surrey Heath that we've told about your community that you may have missed between November 22 and December 5.

We start with the biggest news story from the past fortnight.

On November 26, the government unveiled a new tier system to come into effect from December 2, and we were on hand to let you know what tier your area had been placed in.

The tier 2 restrictions for Surrey Heath mean that people are able to mix again outdoors in groups of up to six, but are banned from meeting indoors with other households.

The news came as rates in Surrey Heath continued to fall.

In a bid to try to encourage people to shop midweek rather than at the weekend, Surrey Heath Borough Council has decided to drop the price of its car park charges in Camberley on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

Cllr Alan McClafferty, leader of Surrey Heath Borough Council, said: “To keep Camberley safe we are encouraging people to vary the times they visit the town centre, can you visit late afternoon instead of the weekend?”

Vue Camberley is hoping to help families get in the Christmas spirit from December 11 by re-opening its doors for a number of films, including a series of festive favourites.

Films such as Frozen, Elf, Home Alone and The Muppet’s Christmas Carol are just some of the movies that will be shown at the venue.

A women who has spent time in isolation due to the coronavirus pandemic has become the first £25,000 jackpot winner on the Surrey Heath Lottery.

The lucky winner, who lives in Camberley in Surrey and has asked to remain anonymous, was delighted to find out about her amazing prize.

She said: “I am absolutely stunned and shocked – I can’t believe it.”

Camberley Theatre has announced it is 'delighted' that the Tier 2 placing has allowed it to re-open.

The first show saw Al Murray take to the stage.

A spokesperson for Camberley Theatre said: "2020 has been a tough year for all of us and on behalf of all the staff here at Camberley Theatre I'd like to thank you for your support and patience. We all look forward to seeing you this December and enjoying the thrill of live entertainment once again."
