The Countess of Wessex visits London and Surrey-based charity for Valentine's event

Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex enjoyed Valentine’s Day inspired arts and crafts made by children and families supported by Shooting Star Children’s Hospices.
The Countess, who is patron of the charity, visited the charity’s West London hospice - Shooting Star House in Hampton on Thursday, February 10, which supports children, young people and their families with Outreach, Therapies and Family Support, and one of the two hospices run by Shooting Star Children’s Hospices.

£6.4m upgrade to A30 Crooked Billet roundabout near Staines complete

A £6.4m upgrade to the A30 Crooked Billet roundabout near Staines-upon-Thames in Surrey is now complete, National Highways has announced.
The transformation has made the junction safer and easier for drivers, making the layout more intuitive and reducing the need to change lanes. Pedestrians and cyclists will benefit too, with more than 700 metres of new lanes.

Mental health professionals share the power of kindness at Cobham event

Kindness is a powerful tool for helping both adults and children to achieve good personal wellbeing, stressed mental health specialists during ACS International School Cobham’s ‘The world needs… Kindness warriors’ event, which took place online during Children’s Mental Health Week 2022.
Addressing an audience of parents and students, Dr Radha Modgil, BBC Radio 1 presenter, author and wellbeing expert, explained that kindness is a life source for mental and emotional health – like a plant needs water – and urged that being kind is not a “weakness” or a “soft-skill”, it is essential for our own personal happiness as well as other people’s.

Oxshott pupils attend virtual visit of Houses of Parliament

Pupils from Danes Hill School in Oxshott, Surrey recently joined an online interactive workshop with two representatives from UK Parliament Education.
Members of the school council gathered in the library to enhance their understanding of the Palace of Westminster, the House of Commons and the House of Lords.

New name and look for Surrey's multi-academy trust

Headteachers from twelve schools in Surrey met for the first time since officially becoming Learning Partners Academy Trust at The Field Study Centre.
Leading the meeting on February 10, was Jack Mayhew, CEO, with his school improvement team. The meeting presented the opportunity for the heads to plan partnership working, bringing staff from across the schools together to share resources and expertise, enabling access to the best education for all pupils.
