Stoneleigh dancer helping to challenge stigma surrounding learning disabilities

Dancer Andrew Self from Stoneleigh, Surrey, has been named one of 18 new ambassadors from the learning disability community for Mencap.

The learning disability charity announced the extraordinary group of people called the Myth Busters who are all living life with a learning disability and through their work with the charity will be helping to challenge wider stigmas and societal misconceptions about what living life with a learning disability looks like.

Banstead Arts Festival set to return this year

After a two-year gap due to the pandemic, Banstead Arts Festival in Surrey, is set to return this year on April 30 to May 14.

There will be a varied programme of high-quality music and contributions by local organisations ensuring something for everyone to enjoy and includes three Saturday evening concerts.

Mayor of Runnymede invites community to plant a tree for the Jubilee

The Mayor of Runnymede, Councillor Elaine Gill, is inviting community members to take part in a tree planting programme to mark the Queen's Jubilee.

Cllr Gill has has been hard at work helping Runnymede in Surrey become greener, planting trees across the borough. The campaign initially started in a bid to save 3,500 oak saplings, which were rescued via the Save The Oaks Campaign for Surrey and nurtured in the mayor’s own back garden.

Schools compete in Dorking Rotary's Youth Speaks - A Debate competition

After a gap of two years due to Covid-19 restrictions, Rotary in Dorking, Surrey, were delighted to be back on stage on Wednesday, March 9 with its annual public speaking competition.

Six teams took part from four schools - hosts St Teresa’s, St John’s, City of London Freemen’s and Manor House.

Guildford Crematorium wins Civic Trust Award

Guildford Borough Council has announced that Guildford's Crematorium in Surrey has won a Civic Trust Award. The scheme recognises outstanding architecture, planning and design.

Guildford Crematorium was one of 45 projects recognised with an award.
