Mayor thanks East Surrey SEND students for community work

Life Skills SEND students at East Surrey College have been thanked by Councillor Jill Bray, Mayor of Reigate and Banstead for their hard work and involvement in community initiatives.
The students have been taking part in a range of community work with the Merstham Community Facility Trust (MCFT), a local charity supporting residents in Redhill and Merstham.

Lego robotics championship award for Reigate pupils

Pupils at Dunottar School in Reigate, Surrey, have taken the Championship Award at the First Lego League Regional tournament in London.
This inter-schools competition challenges teams to work together to explore a given topic - designing, building and programming an autonomous Lego robot to solve a series of missions.

Woking apprentice, 38, swaps kitchen for power stations

Former chef Adam Ellis-Hopwood from Woking, Surrey, proved that it's never too late to change your career after swapping kitchens for electricity substations through a power apprenticeship.
The 38-year-old started retraining in 2019 as a high voltage substation fitter, working on new and upgraded electricity substation projects that keep reliable power supplies flowing to homes and businesses across the South East.

Historical society names West Byfleet's new care home

A local historical society cut the ribbon at a special naming ceremony for a new state-of-the-art care home in West Byfleet, Surrey.
Charrington Manor Care Home, Hobbs Close, which is due to open for business next month, has been named following a suggestion by the Byfleet Heritage Society.

Dame Judi Dench named Sight for Surrey's patron for charity's centenary year

Screen star Dame Judi Dench, CH, DBE, has been announced as patron of Sight for Surrey for the charity's centenary year.
Sight for Surrey supports and enables people in Surrey who are blind, vision impaired, Deaf, hard of hearing and deafblind to lead full and independent lives, a mission that Dame Judi Dench holds close to her heart, as in 2012, she was diagnosed with macular degeneration.
