A small village on the edge of Bodmin Moor has held a special thank you event for one of its own.

On Friday August 13 St Tudy Community Shop held a special diamond anniversary celebration for Ivy who has worked in the shop for 60 years.

Born and bred in St Tudy, Cornwall, Ivy has always lived in the village in four different houses and celebrated her own golden wedding anniversary with Sid last year.

She left school at 15 and started working in St Tudy Post Office and Stores two weeks later, little thinking she would still be there after all these years.

The original building became the St Tudy Community Shop 10 years ago, later relocating to its present location.

So Ivy became a volunteer and moved with it from one end of the village to the other, meaning she had a much shorter commute to work.

Bob King, vice chairman St Tudy Community Shop management committee, said: “Ivy has always been totally reliable and cheerful. She knows everyone by name and is a perfect example of a volunteer helper.

“What a record and long may she continue with no retirement plans.”
