Earlier this week, the Prime Minister launched the Government’s new plan to cement the UK’s place as a science and technology superpower.
The Plan is backed by £370 million of new funding to foster world-leading scientific research and the adoption of transformational technologies like AI. The more we innovate the more we can grow our economy, create the high-paid jobs of the future and improve lives across the country.
In February, I was pleased to meet with the manager of the Staines Business Improvement District to discuss concerns and potential solutions for the area.

Business Improvement Districts (BID) enable businesses to pool their resources and invest in products and services to create an optimal business environment. After a successful re-ballot last year, I am pleased that the Staines BID has a mandate to deliver a set of innovative proposals over the next five years.
Last week, I visited the community hub at Lord Knyvett Hall and the Stanwell Community Allotments, which are both run by the Local Conversation in Stanwell. The Local Conversation is a fantastic grass roots initiative to create a well-connected, healthy and active community. Over the past year, more than 1,500 adults and children took part in their activities including a Lantern Parade, Diwali celebrations, exercise classes and Family Fundays.
I also visited the Stanwell Family Centre, which supports children aged 0-11 and their families through a range of services and activities. These services and activities are designed to improve the emotional well-being, social skills and general development of young children, and to provide adults with the necessary skills for parenting, life and work.
I am delighted that Stanwell has such a thriving community, and I would like to thank all the volunteers at the Local Conversation and the Family Centre for their hard work and commitment to supporting local people.
