Latest sustainability work on Colchester Sports Centre completed
A sporting upgrade with a green twist from your area
Shrub End Community and Sports Centre in Colchester has completed its latest sustainability initiative, made possible by a generous £40,000 community grant from the Enovert Community Trust (ECT).
The project involved the installation of solar panels, battery storage, an iBoost heating system, and electric vehicle (EV)
charge points, marking a significant step towards reducing the Centre's carbon footprint.
By generating sustainable electricity, the Centre will reduce its energy costs, ensuring it can continue to offer a diverse
range of inclusive health and wellbeing opportunities for members of the community.
The improvements will also significantly reduce the Centre’s CO2 emissions, with the system expected to generate an average of 60-80 kW per day and result in a CO2 reduction of around 8,000kg per year.
Renee Varner, Sustainability Lead at Shrub End Community and Sports Centre, said: "This project has significantly reduced our operating costs and reinforced the Centre’s commitment to improving sustainability. We are incredibly grateful to Enovert Community Trust for its generous grant towards this project, which is a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to reduce our environmental impact and contribute to a greener, more sustainable future for our community."
Angela Haymonds, Trust Manager of Enovert Community Trust , said: "The Trust is delighted to have supported this fantastic project that not only ensures environmental improvements but brings substantial cost savings to Shrub End Community and Sports Centre, ensuring it can continue its great work for locals."
