Lawford FC’s free fun football sessions hope to inspire next generation

Lawford Football Club has launched a new football programme with free sessions to encourage young players into playing for fun.
Lawford Fun Football is a new club initiative that volunteers hope will inspire the next generation of footballers by letting youngsters learn and play the game in a fun, non-competitive environment.
The sessions, which take place at the School Lane ground in Lawford every Saturday morning are open to boys and girls from reception age, with more than 70 children already signed up.
Lawford coach Michael Lace said: “Our sessions are inclusive for children of all abilities as we strongly believe that every child should be given the opportunity to play.
“The children are split into school year groups, and each has a dedicated team of coaches.
“We feel this is important as it enables our coaches to get to know all the children in their groups which means they can ensure every child’s needs are fully met.
“To quote a message from one of our parents: ‘Our son came back beaming and said the coaches gave him so much confidence. Happy boy enjoying what he loves!’
“The reason for starting our sessions and formatting them the way we have is to take the pressure off children having to go straight into playing for a team, so they can flourish and grow a love for the game before progressing into league football.
“We want to enable children to have a chance to see if football is something they want to try, so we offer the first three sessions free and then charge a minimal session fee of £3 whenever they want to come along.
Lawford Fun Football takes place from 9:30am to 10:30am on Saturday mornings at School Lane, Lawford, Essex.
Sessions are available for boys from reception to year four and girls from reception age through to year 11.
