Life at The Little Theatre column: 'Charming' and 'funny' Mom's Gift to be performed in June

Last week you were admiring the actors in our auditorium and next week we are inviting you back to the bar to learn about Mom’s Gift.

This charming and funny play will be presented in our theatre bar space from Tuesday, June 7 – Saturday, June 11.  The show starts at 7.30pm each night and the bar is open before so you can get a refreshment and choose a seat.

Director Michèle Martin has assembled a wonderful cast to bring Phil Olsen’s characters to life.

The Mom in question is played by Helen Bennett and she has been dead for 11 months. The occasion requiring a gift of some kind is the birthday of her widow, played by Dave Cox.

All Mom knows is that she must fix something to gain her wings; the trouble is that she doesn’t know what. Families are complicated, so there are no shortage of niggles to navigate.

Also returning for the event is their eldest daughter, Kat, who has been ordered there as part of an anger management programme. Kat, played by Cath Fisher does not feel as though her dad understands her and certainly doesn’t have a close relationship with her younger sister, Brittany (played by Alice McKillop).

She has moved away for a reason, but this meant she was not around when her Mom passed. Is this what needs fixing? Perhaps it is the continued presence of Mom’s former nurse, Trish (Adrienne Ledson) and how close she is with Dad? Or could it be the opportunity to reunite her with her former crush, Kevin?

Michèle has said: “I’ve never been more excited about a production and with so many funny lines, my cast will appreciate an audience to time their gags. With your help we can make this year’s bar production one that will make you laugh, cry & gasp as the secret of Mom’s Gift is revealed.”
