Congratulations to MMTC on their spectacular run of Guys and Dolls last week. We may not be the Hot Box, but we have some delightful dancers on the boards this weekend.

On Friday, June 24 and Saturday, June 25 the Loreto Bamber Dancing Academy return to the Little Theatre to entertain family and friends.

The fun doesn’t stop there as next week we will be treated to another dazzling Southport Spotlights show as they invite you to ‘The 25thAnnual Putnam County Spelling Bee’. From Wednesday, June 29 to Saturday, July 2 you can be transported to Putnam County, New York to meet the contenders for the prize.

Spelling Bees are competitions where contestants spell words of increasing difficulty out loud, instantly disqualified if incorrect. The last one standing is the champion.

This year’s eager bee-vers are home-schooled Leaf Coneybear (Lucas Goodman), reigning champion Chip Tolentino (Rob MacGregor), over-achieving Marcy Park (Toni Spofforth), word lover Olive Ostrovsky (Natasha Athey), studious Logainne Schwartzandgrubenniere (Corinna Davies) and allergy-suffering William Barfee (Chris Seery) back to seek vindication for his defeat the previous year.

The team describe the musical: “Through a series of hilarious, touching and catchy songs, each speller reveals their backstory, their hopes, and dreams as they desperately try to spell correctly and remain in the competition, sometimes resorting to desperate or devious measures to succeed.  

“And trying to keep order over this eclectic (and at times unruly) group for the duration of the competition are the somewhat unstable vice principal Panch (Peter Forshaw),  former champion Rona Perretti (Lauren King),  community service assignee Mitch Mahoney (Phil Hunter) and 4 diligent prefects (played by Mia Scott,  Laura-Jane Palmer-Farrar, Chloe Morris, and Natalie Mott).”

Bringing this piece to life are the talented trio of director Stephen Hughes-Alty, choreographer Pippa Morris and MD Adam Dutch.  Book your tickets now to find out who will win the Bee!
