Life at The Little Theatre column: Don't miss Deathtrap this week

GOING DOWN WELL: Gary Simpson as Sidney, Liam Rabbette as Clifford and Cath Fisher as Myra

By Jennifer Corcoran and Andrew Sloman

Little Theatre Audiences are loving Deathtrap, on stage all this week.

This comment “…thoroughly enjoyed it. Loads of twists and turns, brilliant! Would recommend to anyone to go and see” posted on our social media channels sums up nicely the reactions to this edge-of-your seat, laugh-out-loud thriller. Deathtrap has always gone down well – it still holds the record for being the longest-running comedy-thriller on Broadway and was nominated for four Tony Awards.

It is a play within a play with thrills, spills and plot twists that will leave you dizzy, but delighted. In the play we meet struggling, formerly successful playwright Sidney Bruhl who is inviting his student, Clifford Anderson over to the home he shares with his wife, Myra Bruhl.

DRAMATIC: Cath Fisher, Gary Simpson and Liam Rabbette

Myra is nervous, as Sidney has scared her by suggesting he may kill Clifford, to steal the impressive play he has recently received from him. By the end of Act 1, one of the trio has not made it. If this were not complex enough, a psychic called Helga ten Dorp has arrived, foretelling of pain in the Bruhl house.

As Act 2 gets underway, will anyone get away with murder? Not only is Helga persistent in her predictions, but attorney Porter Milgrim has also arrived and is sowing seeds of suspicion.

Deathtrap is a show that audiences return to time and time again, a deliciously dark comedy that makes us wonder how far we would go if we were desperate enough and opportunity knocked. It runs until this Saturday 26 November.

WHODUNIT: Wendy Cox as Helga Ten Drop with Gary Simpson
