ALMOST THERE: The cast of the show are busy preparing for opening night this Friday

The Boadicea of Britannia Street opens this Friday 20th January and runs until Saturday 28th January.

During the show, we invite you to join the Wivenhoe Writers Group. It has been set up by the keen and eccentric Fran Lamb (Wendy Cox). She is a journalist for the local newspaper as well as a poet and she is looking for a diversion as she is recently widowed and soon to be retired.

Annie (Cath Fisher) has taken a bold step in joining the group. She is a put upon housewife and has difficulty expressing herself, often finding that her words do not come out quite right. Her nervousness comes out in a frantic way.

Janet (Lisa Tatler) is far calmer, an understated librarian who finds confidence in the company of these characters and telling us the tale is Penny (Beth Rusby). Penny is a teacher who does not like children but may have to reconsider that view.

Fran leads her merry band as they decide to put together a play about the ancient East Anglian queen, Boadicea. The four women really connect and begin to share their challenges and grow in confidence.

Ade Morris’s warm and well observed comedy has been hailed for its poignant moments as well as a general feel good factor. It has been directed by Amy Palmer-Farrar who could not be prouder of her cast.

She has an extended flock for this show as two of our actors, Nicci Alexander-Dann and Janis Blackburne have been “Swings” for the show. Swing actors are most easily explained as understudies who can cover multiple roles. This means you do not need one per part.
