It is still a precarious time for the arts and many are in limbo. We are still keeping a close eye on guidance and we are very grateful to still be in a position to offer some socially distanced entertainment for you, and our members.

Our wise Chair, Diane Hutchinson, and our dedicated committee members have been able to safely restore some of traditional social events as well as ‘rehearse’ having patrons in the theatre again.

It is a very interesting time to be a member. If you have ever thought of joining then get in touch with us and find out more – there will be many ways to contribute when we are fully back in business and we will all be learning together!

Next week, on Monday, July 5, we will be opening to a limited audience to present Andrew Lancel in Swan Song. Andrew was bitten by the acting bug as a child in Southport and is delighted to be headed back to his beloved Little Theatre stage.

Swan Song introduces us to Dave Titswell, a forty-something gay teacher. The setting is Liverpool and the time is December 1997.  The world is changing but not all change is welcome.  Will a school trip to the Lakes make things better, or worse? Come and see this bittersweet comedy and find out for yourself.

The show was especially adapted for Andrew, a household name thanks to his successful career that includes roles in Cardiac Arrest, The Bill and Coronation Street. It was so well received when it was performed as a one-off that this tour was organised.

A one man show means there are no bubbles or physical adaptations/trickery required to keep it COVID safe as well as making for a wonderful challenge for the actor, and an intimate and compelling experience for the audience.

North West End described Swan Song as ‘A piece that is painstakingly crafted and superbly delivered’ Everyone will either know a Dave, or see elements of themselves in him and his life.

Last week we confirmed that our Youth Theatre are still bringing you their summer show, Fame The Musical. We can now also confirm that the early steps are being taken to bring you a 2021/22 season of plays and we will continue to share news of our plans here and via our social media.
