GUY UNSWORTH: Southport success story returns to write panto for The Little Theatre

The countdown to our family pantomime is well and truly on; Sleeping Beauty opens on Friday 16th December and tickets are flying out fast!

The buzz is building up beautifully as the first of our three competitions has now opened across our social media channels. Make sure you visit and enter to be in with a chance of winning a family ticket (2 adults and 2 children) for the opening night performance.

There are a fabulous fifteen opportunities to see this magical extravaganza, running until Sunday 2nd January 2023. this year we are delighted to be able to perform a pantomime penned by one of our superb success stories.

Life at The Little Theatre column: On with the next show!

Guy Unsworth played many wonderful roles on our stage, including the challenging dual role of Jekyll and Hyde when our youth theatre performed the mesmerising musical. Guy moved away from Southport to study Theatre Directing at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts and has forged an incredibly successful career ever since as an international award-winning theatre director and writer.

Some of his most recent highlights include being part of the team behind the 90th birthday celebrations for the late Queen Elizabeth II and being the writer and director behind the stage version of “Some Mother’s Do ‘Ave ‘Em”. The latter enjoyed sell-out tours starring Joe Pasquale and Susie Blake.

He has never forgotten his roots though and says: “In many ways, I owe my career to the Little Theatre, I am delighted to renew my festive association with the Club this Christmas and with such a great team. To have my panto on at the Little, with the director and several of the cast being those who were with me in panto all those years ago, feels extra special. Life has come full circle!’

Sleeping Beauty was originally performed as a professional pantomime and has been especially adapted for Southport audiences. We will also have two performances with BSL translation on Tuesday 27th December.
