Have you made any resolutions for 2023? Perhaps you want to take up a hobby – we can heartily recommend attending the theatre more!

In our next play, The Boadicea of Britannia Street by Ade Morris, we meet four women interested in creative writing. A new group has been set up by widowed writer and poet, Fran Lamb.

She is joined by three women who all need to find their voice in some way. Annie is a housewife who has not done anything for herself for a long time, Janet is an understated librarian and Penny is a PE Teacher about to undergo a big change in life.

The four soon find they have more in common than they realise and together decide to write and stage a play about Boadicea. The ancient Iceni queen famously led an uprising against the invading Roman empire and her quest for justice and independence resonates with these women who will find their own strength.

Ade Morris originally penned this as a three hander called The Story of a Great Lady but then revised it into the current form to take it to the Edinburgh Festival in 2013. It is a modern play which makes it feel relevant and topical, but also embraces the enduring themes of life, death and love.

TAKING THE LEAD: Director Amy Palmer-Farrar

Amy Palmer-Farrar is embracing her first time being solo in the director’s chair after cutting her teeth as assistant director for previous productions including last season’s well received tale of female friendship; Di and Viv and Rose. The production has not been without it’s challenge which include a hunt for a pantomime cow and intimacy coachin. Amy and her team have risen to all challenges and are looking forward to sharing the fun and touching results with our audiences.

The Boadicea of Britannia Street opens on Friday 20th January and runs each night at 7:30pm (not Sunday) until Saturday 28th January.
