The curtain was raised on Blackadder III last week, and there was much rejoicing.  

Our talented team juggled wigs, weaponry, witty words and even a squirrel (you’ll have to come and see what we mean now!) to deliver four, fast paced and funny bone tickling episodes of the classic sitcom. Directed by Jacqui Padden (assisted by Peter Hoyle), the accomplished cast includes Tony O’Keeffe, Chris Smalley, Richard Michell, Gary Simpson, Graeme Hunt, Angela McIntyre, Zoe Findlay, Caroline Charnock, Phil Povey, Thomas Ashcroft and Ed Davies.

Following a fantastic first night our chair of the club, Steve Pritchard, gave a speech in the bar to thank and praise all who have contributed. The master baker of our Social Committee, Philip Milloy-Robinson had crafted a magnificent cake to mark the coronation of King Charles III and a wonderful evening was had by all.

The show re-opened on Monday 8th May and was the perfect end to a jubilant bank holiday weekend for the attending revellers. Paul Wilkinson, who directed Blackadder Goes Forth which we brought to you in May 2018 delightedly declared “Lovely to watch a play where the cast’s sense of fun and enthusiasm is so infectious.” He urged prospective audience members to “Grab a ticket while you can!”

You can still catch the show each night this week until Friday 12th May at 7:30pm and then the final performance will be at 2:30pm on Saturday 13th May.

Next week, we welcome BOS Musical Theatre back as they bring us Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. The show is performed from Saturday 20th May – Saturday 27th May and tickets are available via their website. In person, their box office will be open on Saturday 13th then Thursday and Friday 18th/19th May from 11am-1pm.

You can also catch them performing as part of Southport Calling, a celebration of Eurovision being held at the Southport Bandstand on Saturday 13th May – their slot is at 12 noon.
