The theatre is a sacred place for many, and ours is looking even more so as the stage is transformed into the Parish Church of St Barnabus for our next production.

We will be bringing you four episodes of classic sitcom The Vicar of Dibley from Friday, April 29 to Saturday, May 7.

Director Adrian Miles Roberts secured the rights to the scripts and has selected the opening two episodes from the first two seasons that aired (along with specials) from 1994-1998.  The Arrival and Songs of Praise will be followed by The Engagement and Dibley Live.

It is almost 30 years since we first met the Reverend Geraldine Grainger; times have changed and we are no longer as surprised to see a woman taking the cloth, but the enduring themes of friendship and community make this just as relevant now as it was then.

The cast of this fun filled frolic are like a big family and their faces will be familiar to many of you.  Siân Woolley is perfectly cast in the role of Geraldine, who replaces the Reverend Pottle – a cameo role for club stalwart Ray Mann.  Star crossed lovers Alice and Hugo are portrayed by Hayley Smith and John Delahunty, with the dashing Mike Yates as Hugo’s overbearing father, David.

Making up the rest of the parish committee are the accomplished quartet of Brendan Gillow, Les Gomersall, Ted Bullen and Marilyn Fletcher Hill.

Other characters appearing over the course of the evening include PJ Green as Cecil, Radley Haynes as Tristan and Fiona Billington as Ruth. Various members will add to the ambience by popping in as parishioners, and will be glad of your support in the pews (well, auditorium!)

A visit to Dibley is sure to lift anyone’s spirits. Speaking of which, if you do come to see our play, do not forget that our bar is open before and after (as well as during the interval) and many of the cast can be found there post show.
