SHOW TIME: Stepping Out production team

‌Southport Spotlights will be Stepping Out onto the Little Theatre stage this week with their latest toe tapping, tune packed treat.

This popular local society is celebrating their 70^th anniversary this year, having been formed in 1953 under their former name “Southport Amateur Operatic Society”. They have been known as Southport Spotlights since 2012.

They present two shows a year at the Little Theatre, the most recent was Spelling Bee last summer which attracted many nominations from the National Operatic & Dramatic Association.‌

Stepping Out is a comedy with heart that brings together eight people from a mixture of backgrounds who are all united at the weekly tap class in the church hall. Initially they are clumsy and co-ordinated, but as they open up they bloom. The class is run by Mavis Turner (Anna Dunnett), ably assisted by Mrs Fraser on the piano (Gaynor Hayle)

The attendees include student nurse Lynne (Corinna Davies), anxious Dorothy (Katie Palfrey), larger than life Maxine (Lauren Tolley), timid Andy (Toni Spofforth), the only chap in the class, Geoffrey (Dom Tolley), bubbly Sylvia (Laura Jane Palmer-Farrar), outgoing housewife Rose (Gill Thornton-Harris) and aspirational Vera (Debbie Bloom).

Each character has their own troubles they wish to tap away and they are explored throughout the show. This vibrant show is a perfect feel good foray for a February evening (or afternoon) and will be running from Wednesday 22 February to Saturday, February 25 at 7.30pm each evening. There is also a matinee on Saturday, February 25 at 2.30pm.
