Life at The Little Theatre column: Truly entertaining night out

Here at the Little, we are looking forward to our next production, Two 2, which runs from Friday, November 12 until Saturday, November 20.

The play, a comedy set in a British pub, is written by Jim Cartwright. He is perhaps best known for Little Voice, which we staged in 2011 and was a successful film with Jane Horrocks as the lead.

Two 2 is a standalone piece that can be enjoyed whether or not you have seen the first outing for its characters in ‘Two’.

The play is directed by wonderful actor and director Sandra Unsworth and we caught up with her to find out how she felt about directing the play, how it is going, and why you should come and see it!

Sandra told us how lovely she finds it to be back working in live theatre again and said: “I was thrilled to be asked to direct this play and now feel hugely privileged - firstly, to be working on such a cleverly written play with well-defined characters and secondly, to be working with such talented actors.

It is a huge challenge for Ted Bullen and Jacqui Padden who play the landlord and landlady of a struggling northern pub. This is not only in portraying the characters with honesty and sincerity to deliver the underlying pathos to their back-story but in playing another dozen parts of those that frequent the pub in various guises.

They have made me cry with laughter in rehearsals (and sometimes given me a lump in my throat) as they have brought all these characters to life. The actors have had to learn some new skills but I am not spilling the beans on what those are - you will have to come and see for yourselves!

We have been having a huge amount of fun and I sincerely hope that our audiences will come to witness the feats of their acting skills and enjoy a truly entertaining night out. It has been said this is ‘a laugh out loud comedy, with a tear in your beer, that will tickle your funny bone whilst tugging on your heartstrings”
