NEXT SHOW: Rehearsals are underway for 'House Guest'

Congratulations to the cast and crew of Home, I’m Darling – this thought provoking and witty modern drama was a real hit. Our third play of the season is hot on the heels and takes us back to the 1980s.

House Guest is a thriller penned by Yorkshire born dramatist Francis Durbridge. He began writing radio serials, creating the novelist and detective Paul Temple in 1938.

Durbridge then moved to television in the 1950s and also wrote plays from 1971 onwards. His first was Suddenly At Home and then his final play, Fatal Encounter, was posthumously published in 2002.

House Guest was penned in 1976 and performed at the Savoy Theatre in 1982 starring Gerald Harper and Susan Hampshire. House Guest tells the story of celebrity couple Robert Drury (played by Adrian Miles-Roberts) and his wife Stella (Sandie Keane).

Their lives are turned upside down when their younger son is kidnapped in Rome. When Major Crozier (Dave Cox) reveals himself to be the abductor, he has demands that will ensure a safe return.

However, he does not seek ransom but rather refuge – he wishes to stay at the Drury’s home for 48 hours but will not say why. Inspector Burford and Sgt Clayton (Ted Bullen and Graeme Hunt) are summoned but there are more twists and turns as one of the kidnappers is murdered and Robert is the prime suspect.

Also in the tangled mix appear Corrina Davies as Vivien, a journalist plus Wendy Cox as the faithful secretary Jane and June Beswick as Robert’s cousin. The ending to this classic thriller foxes most so snap up your tickets and hold on tight!

House Guest is directed by Mike Yates and will open on Friday 10th November at 7:30pm. Our new season layout means that the second show on Saturday 11th November will be a 2:30pm matinee followed by a Q&A in the bar with the cast and director.

The show then re-opens on Monday 13th November and runs at 7:30pm each evening until Saturday 18th November. Box office is open 11am-1pm then again at 6pm when there is a performance.
