Children are happy as they enter a warm and friendly pre-school in Cheshire West and Chester says Ofsted.

Inspector Katie Bonney made the comment at Little Angels Childcare which meets in St Mary of the Angels Catholic Primary School, Rossall Grove, Little Sutton.

Finding the overall effectiveness of the group to be good, the inspector said the same applied to the quality of education, the behaviour and attitudes of the children, their personal development and the leadership and management of the pre-school. The provision was also said to be good.

"Children are happy as they enter this warm and friendly pre-school," the inspector found. Staff provide a calm and relaxed atmosphere. This enables children to settle quickly and feel secure. All children are confident as they engage in activities and seek out friendships as they freely play and explore."

Staff have established 'close bonds' with the children and plan activities around their interests and consider what they need to learn next. Leaders recognise that since the COVID-19 pandemic, some children need a little more support and this is offered 'calmly and consistently' by patient staff.

The 'passionate' management team has devised a creative curriculum that helps children to build on what they already know and can do. A well designed learning environment offers children a wealth of resources to choose from. At the pre-school the special educational needs and disabilities coordinator ensures that effective support is in place for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities to help them make good progress.

Children who speak English as an additional language are supported well. Staff work with parents and other professionals to ensure that children thrive and achieve. The management team has a good understanding of what the pre-school does well and what it needs to improve.

Partnership with parents is good and parents speak highly of the pre-school as they are kept well informed about their children's progress. Staff share ideas with parents about ways they can help to support their children's learning at home and parents say the extra learning and support which is provided has helped their children to make good progress.

The inspector made two suggestions to further improve the quality of the early years provision. The pre-school has 43 children on roll and employs 11 members of childcare staff.

During the visit, amongst other aspects, the manager led the inspector on a learning walk and discussed the early years curriculum. Parents also shared their views of the pre-school with the inspector.
