Liverpool theatre-goers help raise over £5,000 for Marie Curie

CHARITY SUCCESS: Marie Curie community fundraiser for Merseyside, Jen Corrigan, with actor Ivano Turco

Generous Liverpool theatre-goers have helped raise more than £5,000 for the UK’s leading end of life charity Marie Curie. Liverpool Empire Theatre allowed volunteers from the charity to carry out a collection after the recent performance of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.

After the show, actor Ivano Turco who played the titular Jamie, made an impassioned plea for the audience to dig deep and praised the charity for its work providing care for people with any illness they’re likely to die from.

Marie Curie community fundraiser, Jen Corrigan, said: “We are so grateful to The Liverpool Empire Theatre and the theatre company for letting us collect at the venue. We were blown away by the support of the cast and crew and the final amount of £5,095.66 was just incredible.

“I was really touched by Ivano’s speech - it was totally unexpected and it was amazing that he’d taken the time to find out about the vital work Marie Curie does. We are also grateful for the support of The Liverpool Empire Theatre and everyone who donated. Donations will help Marie Curie nurses and healthcare professionals look after people, not just at our Liverpool hospice, but also in their own homes.”

Marie Curie is the UK’s leading end of life charity and is there for anyone with an illness they’re likely to die from, including Alzheimer’s (or another form of dementia), heart, liver or kidney disease, motor neurone disease, Parkinson’s and advanced cancer.

Location: Liverpool.
