Llanelli market traders urged to open on Sundays
It is believed market traders could benefit from setting up stalls at the popular relaunched car boot sale
A call has gone out to Llanelli market traders to join in with the successful recently relaunched car boot sale in the town.
More than 1,000 bargain hunters have been descending upon the car boot sale at Murray Street multi-storey car park adjacent to the market, on the first and third Sundays of the month.
Organisers said the car boot has seen an increase in footfall in the town.
Cllr Suzy Curry believes market traders could benefit from the boom and said: “I would love them to join in and have a stall, it would improve the offer available to the public.
"The town’s market traders have a lot to offer and with the car boot sale already a success we have proved shoppers can be tempted into town in large numbers when the opportunity is there."
Market traders who are already taking advantage of the car boot sale are Sally and Stacey Dilley of the Cozi Cafe, who have taken a pitch and will provide food for shoppers.
Tyisha Positive Action Group member John Prosser said: “Every penny spent is money in local people’s pockets and that has to be a good thing.
"It could buck the trend for internet and retail park shopping.
"Shop local is a powerful message and good causes are benefiting from proceeds of the car boot, including Tyisha Foodbank and other community projects such as gardening and craft groups.
"Meanwhile, a portable toilet has been installed at the multi-story car park for use during the car boot sales and parking is also free on the day."
The next boot sale is on Sunday, April 16, sellers are asked to arrive between 6am and 7am, buyers after 7am.
