Llanelli stage school raises over £3,000 for chemotherapy unit

The SA15 Stage School in Llanelli has raised over £3,000 for the Chemotherapy Day Unit at the town's Prince Philip Hospital.

The community stage school has over 200 members between the ages of four and 18.

They donated proceeds from an online raffle and auction at a show at Y Ffwrnes Theatre in memory of much-loved Llanelli man Wayne Evans, who lost his battle with cancer last August, aged 50.

Wayne's daughter Olivia is a member of the school.

Wayne, who was a triathlete, was diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer in 2022, with further cancers in four secondary areas.

Wayne had always trained and competed in events and raised money for the chemotherapy unit himself.

Incredibly, despite his diagnosis, Wayne completed the Swansea and Llanelli Sprint triathlons later that year as part of a team where he walked or ran the 5k race.

Jed and Vicky Davies, owners of SA15 Stage School, said: “Each show that we do, we try and fundraise for a charity which has supported someone close to SA15.

“Olivia, a member of SA15, sadly lost her father, Wayne.

"We spoke with the family and said we would like to fundraise for a charity of their choice.

"They chose the chemotherapy day unit as Wayne received great care and support there.

“We were pleasantly surprised by the generosity shown by those who donated prizes and supported our fundraiser by purchasing tickets and bidding on the auction.

"Our efforts were certainly rewarded by the final amount raised.

“We would like to thank every individual and business who kindly contributed with prizes for our raffles and auction and also to each person who purchased a ticket or bid in our auction.”

Nicola Llewellyn, head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, said: “The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
