Llanelli's Crown Park set for revamp thanks to National Lottery funding
A three-stage project will start within weeks and include planting and new benches
A park improvement project is about to get underway in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire.
The town council, through its biodiversity programme, has secured funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to carry out improvements at Crown Park in the Seaside area.
The money has been made available through the lottery's Local Places for Nature scheme.
Works will include tree and shrub planting in and around the park (pictured above) and coming weeks will see first stages of the project get underway.
This will involve temporary fencing installed as protection to the new planting that will be done during the second stage of the project.
Species set to be planted will include daisy bush, Jersualem sage, elder, evergreen spindle and aspen.
The third stage of the scheme will depend on Covid-19 allowing it to commence as it will involve volunteers and children from Penrhos school to help in planting activities.
Also, as part of the overall project, interpretation panels and new benches will be installed.
Councillor Sean Rees for the Glanymor Ward said:
“These are positive developments for the area."
"I’m pleased to see the town council is engaging with the Seaside Community and Ysgol Penrhos in carrying out the project at Crown Park and also investing in new facilities for Morfa Park given the incidents of vandalism."
He added: "Taking facilities away is not the answer as the reckless actions of some should not result in the rest of our young people living in the area being penalised.
"I urge people to be vigilant though and if they see any suspicious activity to please report it to the authorities.”
