Students from a local university will be taking on a charity challenge to raise money for a mental health charity.
Members of Loughborough Students’ Badminton Club - which is based in Loughborough, Leicestershire - will walk, run, or cycle the distance from Loughborough to Munich and back.
This will see them complete 1,732 miles, with money raised going to Lamp (Leicestershire Action for Mental Health Project).
The group has chosen this distance because the 2022 European Badminton Championships are being held in Munich.
Those who take part in the challenge will record their walks, runs and cycles and then add up their combined distances at the end of each week.
Lamp is an independent mental health charity.
They provide free community mental health advocacy for people living in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
They also provide Carers Advocacy for people in these areas.
Toby Ross, welfare and fundraising representative of the Students’ Badminton Club, said: "Lamp is a fantastic charity that provides information and support to challenge the stigma around mental health.
"We think that Lamp is an incredible organisation and we want to support them, especially since the pandemic has impacted everyone.
"This is why we've set ourselves this challenge and are kindly asking for donations.
"All the funds raised will go to Lamp."
Loughborough Students’ Badminton Club have already walked up Beacon Hill as part of the challenge.
Richard Kotulecki, Lamp’s CEO, said: "I’d like to thank the Loughborough University Students’ Badminton Club for its generosity in launching this new fundraising drive in aid of Lamp.
"We’re certain that the event will enrich the students’ lives on campus as they engage with others and build new friendships.
"The fundraiser encourages everyone to stay active and healthy, and sports and exercise are great ways to support people’s general mental health.
"We are grateful for the time and effort that they will devote to this cause and look forward to continuing to work with them long into the future."
