Manchester awards celebrate local volunteers and unsung heroes
This is the first Be Proud Awards event in three years.

Local unsung heroes have been recognised at an awards ceremony.
The Be Proud Awards celebrate those across Manchester who make a real difference to their local communities.
This is the first Be Proud Awards event since 2019, after the Covid-19 pandemic forced them to stop.
The ceremony was held at The Midland Hotel, City of Manchester, Greater Manchester.
It was a chance to celebrate those who have continued to achieve great things against the odds in recent times.
The awards also recognised those who have adapted, often creatively, to meet the changing needs of their communities.
There were a range of categories including; supporting health and wellbeing, the road to zero carbon and community response to Covid-19.
The winners were:
- Outstanding contribution/special recognition award: Javeno McLean
- The Road To Zero Carbon: Moss Side 1.5 degrees
- Supporting Health and Wellbeing: Marise Lindsey
- Promoting Equality and Diversity: Javeno McLean
- Creating Cleaner and Greener Neighbourhoods: Hong Kong Volunteers in Manchester
- Creative in the Community: Ed Wellard Withington Walls
- Business in the Community: Jamie Whittaker
- Community Response to Covid-19 - Individual award: Ethan Beardow
- Community Response to Covid-19 - Group award: Wythenshawe Good Neighbours
- Community Response to Covid-19 - Working effectively together: Manchester Covid19 Vaccination Sites and Volunteer Marshalls
