Merseyside charity sleeps out in aid of the homeless

Caring Connections staff and families took part in the Whitechapel Centre's annual sleepout, on April 5, raising funds to support people affected by homelessness. The event took place inside Liverpool Anglican cathedral.

Participants were invited to make dens out of cardboard, with the winner announced on the night. The event was a great success, with a range of activities including story time, face painting, hair braiding and board games provided.

Paul Growney, chief executive of Caring Connections, said: "This was a fantastic event organised by The Whitechapel Centre, there’s not many fundraisers where the whole family can get involved. This was amazing especially for the children, waking up in such an iconic building was a once in a lifetime experience."

As a charity, Caring Connections provides several services to Merseyside’s homeless population, working with Liverpool YMCA, Liverpool City Council and The Whitechapel Centre. Core services are focused on the provision of care and reablement support, aiming to support people with long term health conditions and those with care needs.

Brian Nolan, from Caring Connections, said: "‘We have spent many years building up our services supporting homeless service users. We are really proud to work closely with the Whitechapel Centre in supporting individuals out of hospital and managing long term conditions.

"The challenges homeless people face on a daily basis is shocking and its really good to be involved in a city with so many charities looking to make a difference," To find out more about the work of Caring Connections, visit here.
