There was a lot of local interest at the British University & College Swimming Long Course Championships at Sheffield over the weekend.
Hoylake’s Anna Woodward set a Personal Best in the 50m Butterfly, with club colleagues Niamh King-Mackinnon doing likewise in the 100m Butterfly and Hannah Das achieving similar in the 50m Backstroke.
Aaron Fox of Bebington took fifth place in the final of the 50m Butterfly having previously set a PB in the 50m Freestyle. In that 50m Butterfly final, Neil Wylie of Prescot also set a Personal Best, when finishing in ninth place, having previous lowered it in the heats.
It was a good weekend for Everton with Matthew Rooney going under 25 seconds for the first time in the 50m Freestyle and achieving a lifetime best in the 50m Backstroke, whilst Faith Bryant was strong in the 50m Freestyle. Ryan Sanders of Halton was explosive in both the 50m & 100m Butterfly whilst Christopher Lambert of City of Liverpool improved his time in the 50m Freestyle.
Ormskirk’s Joshua Maitland can be well please with his efforts in the 50m Freestyle and 100m Backstroke, both producing Personal Bests.

Southport were well represented, with Jessica Law and Elena Priestner doing particularly well in the relays, and Jacob Lea, Thomas Hill, Rachael Thompson and Amy Teebay standing out in the individual events.
Entries are now open for the North West Regional Championships which take place at the Liverpool Aquatic Centre from March 26 to May 1. Closing date is March 9.
FINA has confirmed that there will be a World Championships in 2022.
The announcement was made after rescheduling the 2022 competition, which was due to take place in Fukuoka, Japan. It was switched due to the current health impacts of the Omicron Covid-19 variant and the pandemic measures currently in place in Japan.
Budapest, Hungary, is now set to host the World Championships from June 18 to July 3 2022.
