A Southport based respite care charity has announced that their Raise a Million campaign has now reached its £1 million target.
The Revitalise campaign was launched by Rory Kinnear and Joanna Lumley with the objective of building a support fund for disabled people and their carers as they transition out of lockdown.
The current total is £1,022,937.
The charity wish to thank everyone who donated their time and effort, and to those kind enough to donate towards the fund itself.
The money has allowed Revitalise to offer subsidised respite care packages for disabled people and their exhausted carers, who have not seen a break in 12 months.
Revitalise CEO Jan Tregelles thanked everyone that had been moved by the campaign to donate and asked that anyone who is able to contribute to please continue supporting these families in need.
The demand for the funding far exceeds what has been raised, reflective of the desperate situation disabled people and carers continue to face; many still shielding. When the restrictions are lifted, they will be in desperate need of Revitalise’s services.
Jan Tregelles said: "We are so thankful to have reached £1 million with our Raise a Million initiative.
"Since the pandemic began, Revitalise have been inundated with calls from carers in desperate situations, many who have been providing round the clock care for a year. These generous donations will be such a lifeline for them.
"Please continue to support Revitalise as the restrictions are lifted - there are so many people who rely on us for help and we want to offer support to as many people as we can.”
There were 9.1m family carers in the UK at the start of lockdown, and it is estimated that a further 4.5 have taken on caring responsibilities since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Revitalise are able to offer specialised, round the clock care from their Sandpipers centre in Southport, Merseyside at heavily subsidised rates thanks to the Raise a Million initiative and generous funding from The National Lottery Community Fund and Barclays.
For 57 years, Revitalise has provided respite care breaks to a huge range of people. These are a vital lifeline to so many unpaid home carers and their disabled family members.
