Middlesbrough's triple gold National judo medallist Rachel Jackson earns call-up to Great Britain's Judo Squad.
Rachel, who is 19, represents Tees Valley Judo Club, which is based in Middlesbrough Sports Village.
She won her third National gold medal at the British National Judo Championships, which were held at the Institute of Sport in Sheffield.
She moved confidently through the various preliminary stages of the Women’s Junior Under-63kg section of the competition despite having fought only once before at this new weight category.
Once on the mat, Rachel demonstrated why she deserved a place on the Great Britain Judo Squad. She not only threw for IIPON but also demonstrated how successful groundwork can be if used correctly.
Rachel’s secured a third National title, which means she is now able to wear the coveted Gold F’s on her judo suit. Gold Fs' are only awarded to judokas who have won three gold medals at the Nationals.
Rachel trains with her 19-year-old sister Eve, who finished fifth in the Women’s Junior Under-63kg category.
Her coach Liam Doody, was unable to attend the competition due to having Covid, Simon Church stepped in to provide mat-side coaching on the day.
