'Mindless act of vandalism' as trees in Gwaun- Cae-Gurwen destroyed

Trees have been destroyed at playing fields in Gwaun- Cae-Gurwen, Neath Port Talbot.

In what has been described as “a mindless act of vandalism”, the trees at Parc y Werin in Gwaun-Cae-Gurwen were recently planted after Neath Port Talbot Council secured an All Wales Play Opportunity Grant Funding of around £40,000.

The money was invested in a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) facility. The trees were planted to complement the facility and were designed to enhance the area for many years to come.

A Neath Port Talbot Council spokesman said: “This facility is designed to benefit people living in this neighbourhood so it is saddening that a mindless act of vandalism has caused so much damage.

“Some individuals sadly went to some effort to break these young trees to try and destroy the hard work that has been done to create this area that is designed for people of all ages from the local community to enjoy."

The incident has been reported to the police and anyone who knows anything about the incident is asked to contact them to help in the investigation of the vandalism.
