New Covid-19 testing centres to open in Surrey

Several asymptomatic testing centres are being opened across Surrey for key workers, Surrey County Council has announced.

A council cabinet meeting on Tuesday broke the news that three centres administering lateral flow tests would open at Bourne Hall in Epsom, Goldwater Lodge in Woking and Thameside Centre in Staines in early February for essential workers not currently covered by other testing programs.

Further centres will be opened in Elmbridge, Guildford and Reigate and Banstead three weeks later, with two more centres in Surrey Heath and Waverley opening a further two weeks after that.

The facilities will will be open between 7.45am and 8pm, although other details have so far not been revealed.

Reacting to the news, Liberal Democrat County Councillor Angela Goodwin said: "I am really pleased to see that essential workers, many of whom are involved in delivering services to some of the most vulnerable residents in our communities, will soon have access to lateral flow testing which is another important tool in combating this terrible virus.

"It is vital to make this process as accessible as possible and I am glad to see that the planned opening hours of the test centres should allow workers to be able to attend either before they start work or after they have finished," she added.
