New zero-waste shop opens in Littleborough
Products available at the shop include fruit and veg, cleaning products, shampoo and conditioner, natural deodorants, sanitary towels, toothpaste and dishwasher tablets
A new zero-waste shop selling organic products has opened its doors with the aim of prompting clean living and helping the environment.
‘Riggs from the Roots Up’ has opened on Victoria Street in Littleborough selling organic fruit and veg, cosmetics, pasta, grains and pulses.
Customers will be able to bring their own bags and containers to fill up with products, so you only buy what you need, reducing waste.
Nicolle Rigg, along with husband Lee, who runs the butchers next door, said they were inspired to open the shop after their seven-year-old daughter Poppy took such a strong interest in helping the environment.
“She was constantly asking about how she could do things to do better for the planet,” said Nicolle, who has lived in the area for eight years.
“It opened our eyes to how rewarding and practical the lifestyle really is. It’s been quite enjoyable setting it up to be honest.”
“I’m hoping it’s the future of shopping, it’s made a big difference in our household. To be honest it’s a lot easier, I found when I was going to supermarkets I was overbuying. My cupboards were constantly full of things I didn’t end up using.
“You cut out most of the packaging and not filling your bins with bottles and bottles of empty plastics. These little steps can have a major impact on improving the environmental damage that is happening every day.”

Products available at the shop include fruit and veg, cleaning products, shampoo and conditioner, natural deodorants, sanitary towels, toothpaste, dishwasher tablets as well as grains, pulses, beans and lentils, pasta, rice and cereals.
Nicolle added that cleaner food equals a cleaner way of life.
She said: “I personally have a few health issues that require me to lose weight. Straight away organic food helps me to do so, as I am no longer adding artificial preservatives to my diet.
“By choosing to eat organic, your body is retaining more vitamins, minerals, and enzymes than standard raised food. It makes us, as a shop, feel good to know we are helping you and your children's bodies get the nutrients it deserves.
“Let us help you improve the world of today for future generations. We as a shop are very new to the lifestyle change, and we are very excited to drive into all aspects.”
