A local youth hostel has received a donation to help fund a new cycle hub.
Alnwick Youth Hostel was given £5,000 from Northumberland Freemasons for the building work.
This money will help them to convert an outbuilding into a secure area for visiting cyclists to keep their bicycles safe.
It will also offer a facility for route planning and communal meetings.
Bill Grisdale from Alnwick Youth Hostel said: "We’ve noticed a real growth in cyclists staying with us.
"Many enjoy riding for health reasons, for sport or simply for enjoyment and it’s a great way for them to see our beautiful part of Northumberland."
Steve Whitting, a freemason from Alnwick, Northumberland, said: "We are delighted to help the Alnwick Youth Hostel with funding some of their building work which will provide a much-needed resource for visiting cyclists.
"As a keen cyclist myself, averaging around 150miles per week, I can appreciate the need for somewhere to secure the bikes and also chat with other likeminded people.”
Alnwick Youth Hostel is a Grade II listed building and was once a police station and courthouse.
Bill said: "We want the hub to be available for use by local residents and day visitors to the town, to make commuting by bicycle easier and safer.
"It is hoped that we can encourage people out of their cars and onto bikes."
