Nostalgia: Iconic Manchester United manager and his right-hand man

December 4
Manchester City forward Brian Kidd levels the score at 1-1 during a closely-fought First Division match against Derby County at Maine Road.

The result was a 3-2 victory to the Blues with Kidd scoring twice and the third goal coming from Dennis Tueart.
City went on to finish second in the league with 56 points, just one point behind champions Liverpool.
Kidd, born in Collyhurst, was City’s top scorer for the season with 23 goals in all competitions.
He made 98 league appearances for the Blues from 1976 to 1979, scoring 44 times. He was also capped twice for England.

December 2
Rod Stewart, formerly of the Faces, belts out hit after hit during his concert at Belle Vue, Manchester. Sharing the stage with him is guitarist Jim Cregan.
Scottish rock singer Stewart is one of the best-selling music artists of all time with more than 250 million records to his name.
Six of his singles have been UK Number Ones, starting with Maggie May in 1971.
Stewart has also sold 10 Number One albums. He was knighted in 2016.
1986
December 1
Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson and his assistant Archie Knox are pictured in training during the 1986-7 season.

Knox was at Ferguson’s side at Aberdeen from 1980 to 1983, winning two Scottish Cups, the European Cup Winners’ Cup and the European Super Cup.
After a spell at Dundee, Knox rejoined Ferguson at United, staying for three years until April 1991.
