Reading FC striker Andrija Novakovich says he is eager to kick on at international level after making his USA debut.

The 21-year-old, who is on a season-long loan deal at SC Telstar in the Netherlands, made his debut for America against Paraguay during the international break.

Novakovich came on as a second-half substitute in the 1-0 victory which was witnessed by as many as 14 of his relatives.

He said: "It was a very proud moment, I was very honored to wear the stars and stripes.

"I was lucky enough to get on and make my debut. I believe in myself.

"I was just happy for the opportunity to show what I can do in training and in the games. You want more and you just got to keep doing your best."

Novakovich's call-up was the result of a superb season so far, with the striker already bagging 19 goals this campaign.

He made his Reading debut back in 2015 under Steve Clarke but has failed to kick on from that showing.

But with one year left on his Royals contract, Novakovich can still show he has a part to play in Berkshire, especially with a new manager coming in.

And he says he wants to make an impression when he is back at Reading over the summer.

"I want to play at the highest level I can and at the minute I have another year left on my contract at Reading," he said on a Dutch football podcast.

"The plan is to go back and see if I have a chance there. But in football anything is possible, anything can happen so nothing is certain.

"I am just trying to enjoy every game with Telstar and make it a historic season.

"Reading are in touch with me in almost every game asking how I am doing so they have been really good in that respect."
