Organisers of North Devon Show 'devastated' by 2021 cancellation
Quoting ‘too many uncertainties’ and a ‘lack of clear guidelines’ the decision was reached on a majority vote at last Thursday’s meeting
The North Devon Show organisers have announced that this year’s event will not take place.
Quoting ‘too many uncertainties’ and a ‘lack of clear guidelines’ the decision was reached on a majority vote at last Thursday’s meeting.
Show secretary, Theresa Soanes said: “I’m devastated, as are many others, but despite more positive news recently the pandemic throws up too many conundrums for us to be able to guarantee the safety of the public, and that must always be our number one concern.”
The official directors announcement states: “After ongoing discussions and monitoring of the current situation, it is with great sadness, that we came to the agonising decision to cancel the 2021 North Devon Show, due to the continuing Coronavirus pandemic.
“The Society are devastated to have to make this announcement for a second year, but although recent news about the Pandemic is much more positive, there remains a lot of uncertainties around larger events and clear guidelines not being available until nearer show day making planning for our show near impossible.
“The safety and welfare of everyone involved with the North Devon Show is our main priority, particularly as our show is run mainly by volunteers and with the uncertainties surrounding Covid-19 Restrictions, this is the safest decision we could make.
“The Society would like to thank everyone who has supported the show and we want to reassure you all, that our efforts will now turn to planning and holding a fabulous show on Wednesday, August 3 2022.”
Theresa Soanes added: “We wish everyone well through these difficult times, and hope that the situation improves for everyone as the months pass.
“Unfortunately, the timing just wasn’t right for us. There were too many ifs and buts and we just can’t afford to take those sort of risks.
“We all hope that things will be very different by the summer of 2022. We expect to come back bigger, better and stronger, to make sure that next year’s Show will be the best there’s ever been.”
