Two suspects have pleaded guilty to charges related to a fire that “destroyed” a £40,000 canal boat in Runcorn.

Adam Lloyd, 36, of Riversdale Road, Frodsham, was remanded in custody after appearing at Chester Crown Court on Friday, February 24, while co-defendant Jackie Lloyd, 54, also of Riversdale Road in Frodsham but a different street address, was released on bail.

Court documents said they each pleaded guilty to one count of arson being reckless as to whether property would be destroyed or damaged in connection with a £40,000 barge that was “destroyed by fire” at 7.30pm on September 7 in Runcorn.

The pair initially denied the charge when they first entered pleas on October 7.

Both are now due to be sentenced on April 11.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service reported at the time that two appliances from Runcorn and Widnes were called to the Bridgewater Canal at Canal Reach in Windmill Hill, Runcorn, at 7.42pm on Wednesday, September 7.

Crews doused the flames with hose jets.
