PETERBOROUGH CHINESE SCHOOL: Staff and students enjoy New Year celebrations

The Chinese New Year of the Rabbit coincided with the 31st anniversary of the establishment of the Peterborough Chinese School.

Chinese and people of other ethnicities and cultures participated in this grand celebration. The deputy mayor of Peterborough and his wife attended the event and spoke highly of it. At the beginning of the event, principal Ms Deng, known as Janice, delivered a speech, welcoming guests to come and participate. Then the deputy mayor delivered a speech as well.

He pointed out that Peterborough is a diverse city that embraces the traditions and cultures of various countries and nationalities. He was very happy to see the Chinese working and settling in the community and wished everyone present a happy Chinese New Year.

Although Mr Le Hong, founder and former principal of the Chinese School, and Mr You, president of the Peterborough Chinese Association, were not in the UK this year, they sent New Year blessings to the guests via remote video.

The Chinese school also organised lion dance performances, welcoming the God of Wealth, held lottery draws, provided  Chinese food, and held many other traditional New Year celebrations.

The students performed a variety of cultural programmes such as songs, dances, and poetry recitations, which received continuous applause from the audience.

During the period, principal Ms Deng also commented on those students who passed the international Chinese Qualification Test, and issued certificates, affirming their dedication and congratulating them on their Chinese achievements.
