MANY HATS: Joby Fox does humanitarian work alongside his music
We had a great guest in the studio last week. He's a musician, performer and humanitarian worker too who casually popped in on his way to Denmark.
Regular listeners will be familiar with Joby Fox, whose music has been picked up by a number of our presenters, including Drive host Jo Bailey.
Jo interviewed Joby, who also played four songs live in the studio, including two from his latest album Once Was A Hawk Now I’m A Dove.
Joby, a native of Belfast, originally played for a punk band called The Bankrobbers, who appeared on Channel 4's legendary music show The Tube, and got into trouble with the law after printing up some promotional £50 notes with the band's name on them!
After this, he played in Energy Orchard, which had some minor hit singles and a hit album in 1990. I still have their album here at home!
Joby is also co-founder of Refugee Rescue, a humanitarian NGO providing life-saving sea rescue at the refugee crossing on the island of Lesbos, alongside fellow artist and curator Jude Bennett.
