Pictures: An egg-stra special Easter Week for Bacup pupils

The children at Thorn Primary School in Bacup, Rossendale, Lancashire have enjoyed a brilliant time over their Easter Week.

As well as continuing Key Learning, our pupils have been given the opportunity to experience how Easter is celebrated around the world. Each class chose a different country, including France, Spain and Poland.

Pupils learnt about Easter culture, traditions and foods. We had a special Easter Tree in our entrance hall and each class was invited to make an egg, in the style of their chosen country, to hang from the tree. Pupils also had time in the kitchen, making traditional Easter foods, from their class country.

We held an Easter raffle with some amazing hampers containing foods from around the world. Children from EYFS to Y6 entered into our Easter Garden Competition by making their own fantastic mini gardens at home with their families.

We were overwhelmed with entries and it was incredibly difficult to choose the winners. Each class spent some time harvesting the school gardens and enjoyed decorating the raised beds in the Easter theme.

In the middle of our Easter Week, we had two Easter Challenge Days, where we made the most of our Forest School to get outside and be active. Each class took part in five different physical challenges; Easter Bunny Run and Jump, Big Egg and Spoon Challenge, Eggheads, The Eggstraordinary Wall Challenge and Easter Tunnel Surprise (which was the pupils' favourite and wettest challenge!)

We were thrilled to receive Easter egg donations from Morrisons and One-Stop in Bacup, Asda Rawtenstall, and also from family and friends. We had so many donated that we were able to award them as prizes for the winners of the Mini-gardens, Class garden and the Forest School Challenges.

The children had already had such a great week, so you can imagine how excited they were to find out that our Headteacher, Mrs Edgar, had arranged for the Easter Bunny to visit for our Egg Hunt on Friday. The Easter Bunny brought even more eggs, to give to the children as they finished their Egg Hunt.

It was a very busy week for all of us but, as you can see from the photos, we have all thoroughly enjoyed it!
