Firefighters have shared images of the smouldering husk of a van gutted by flames in Widnes.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said one appliance was called to Montague Road in Halebank at 11.31pm on Wednesday, February 16.

The blaze was close to wooden pallets and not far from a warehouse.

On Twitter, Widnes Fire Station tweeted: "Today Red Watch attended a vehicle fire involving a van which was well alight.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire."

Images featured in the tweet showed water hosing down a smouldering, scorched open engine compartment, and a burst tyre next to some charred bodywork.
