Police officers dismissed for shirking duties in Slough
The two officers failed to attend incidents on two separate occasions
Two police officers have been dismissed for shirking their duties in Slough, Berkshire.
PC Robert Ashcroft and PC Ataul Ahmad, both of Slough Local Policing Area, failed to respond to police calls on three separate occasions.
On the first occasion, Thames Valley Police was called to a report of a man armed with a knife outside a house in Langley, Berkshire, at 3pm on Saturday, January 21.
The control room deemed the incident required an immediate responsde from on-duty officers.
Both PC Ashcroft and PC Ahmad were on-duty in a marked police car at the time but failed to respond. The officers then deliberately moved to a different area to avoid attending.
The second incident occurred on the following day when police received reports of a group of men illegally hare coursing in the Langley area.
PCs Ashcroft and Ahmad were in a marked police van at the time. The officers delayed their response to the incident, deciding to go to a petrol station to get coffee instead.
On the final occasion, on Thursday, March 30, PC Ahmad and PC Ashcroft were in a position to attend a report of an assault of a man in Langley. Both officers failed to attend the incident.
PCs Ashcroft and Ahmad were dismissed from the force on Tuesday, December 19 following a misconduct hearing on Monday, December 18.
Detective Chief Superintendent Chris Ward, head of professional standards said: "For the public to have confidence in the police, we expect the highest of standards from all of our officers and their commitment to serving the public.
"Thames Valley Police is committed to investigating any behaviour which does not adhere to the values and standards set within the force.
"PC Ashcroft and PC Ahmad failed to adhere to these standards of behaviour and there is no place in our force for those who behave in the manner they did."
The officers were officially dismissed for failing to uphold the honesty and integrity of the force, failing in their duties and responsibilities, and engaging in discreditable conduct.
The misconduct hearing was chaired by Nicola Talbot-Hadley at Thames Valley Police Headquarters South in Kidlington.
